Fishing Safely with Sentinel for Dogs

Now that the temperatures are on the rise, it's time to bring out the lines, hooks and sinkers and head out to your favorite recreational fishing jaunts. Your pet dog may want to tag along, and depending on the personality of your dog, it may be ok, but you need to be aware of the dangers. While it's nice to have company while waiting for action on your bait, you need to keep an eye on your pet and make sure he's safe.

Keep your fishing supplies a away from your the reach of your dog. Fish hooks, lures and baits are particularly interesting for them. While there might not be much harm if your dog eats some of your bait (some dogs even prefer them to their own food, even stink bait), fish hooks can be accidentally ingested and get embedded in his mouth, or worse, in the gastrointestinal tract. Or he may step or sit on them and get injuries on his paws or skin.

Some dogs also want to be part of the action, especially when you cast the line during fly fishing. They probably think it was a game and wants to retrieve the lure!

Finally, note that your dog may wander every now and then to who-knows-where while you're waiting for the fish to bite the bait. Make sure he's got flea and worm protection with Sentinel for Dogs.
